Question: "What is the reason for never ceasing wars, terroristic attacks and turmoil in the Middle East?"

Answer: In light of the recent massive military and terroristic attacks on Israel by Hamas, who are essentially the primary militant component of Palestine, the question is quite timely and appropriate. No one can give a definitive answer to the question but please consider the following:

  1. Wars and violence are symptomatic of this world steeped in sin and immorality. Sin makes man violent and hate. Sin has corrupted man and separated man from God. (Genesis 3). Israel and Hamas are no different.
  2. Recall that one of the most prominent acts of violence recorded in the Bible is Cain killing his brother Abel. It is a direct result of sin. (Genesis 4)
  3. Wars and violence are not simply the thing of the Middle East. The reality is that the Bible tells us of the wars and rumors of wars in the eschatological end-time timeframe.

Matthew 24

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

It is true that the wars and violence in the Middle East clearly have political aspects. But the foundational reasons must be viewed from the Bible's perspective.

The Bible's perspective is very clear that wars and rumors of wars and other calamities will not cease and will and can occur anywhere including in the Middle East.

Having said that, it is true that there is bad blood between the descendants of Isaac and Ishmael. We cannot ignore this biblical perspective. If this is correct, then the wars and violence shall not cease in the Middle East - for that matter anywhere in the world.

As God's people, we say: "Maranatha!" The bottom line: both Israel and Hamas need Jesus Christ as their Savior and LORD!
